Solebury United Methodist Church

Our History

The Solebury United Methodist Church enjoys a heritage of Christian witness and community service extending back nearly 200 years.

  • Our current congregation was created over many decades by mergers of the New Hope Presbyterian Church, New Hope United Methodist Church and the Lumberville United Methodist Church.
  • Our roots trace back to 1818 when an interdenominational Sunday School was founded in New Hope and became the spiritual foundation for several area congregations eventually chartered as the New Hope Presbyterian Church.
  • Early Methodist circuit riding preachers organized the first societies in the area in the 1820s and 1830s and later became the Lumberville United Methodist Church.
  • In 1830, a Methodist society was formed which in 1874 built a large stone church on Main Street in New Hope and was known as New Hope United Methodist.
  • In February of 2000, our current facility was completed and dedicated and we changed our name to Solebury United Methodist Church.
